I was considering Oppo Realme 7 5G, which seems to be the ideal size and spec with an eye-friendly display, but one thing I didn't like is buggy Realme UI 2.0. Notifications on the screen pop up and disappear instantly, sometimes can't reduce the volume on WhatsApp calls it's stuck on max, when you schedule DND it makes a notification sound when turning on, which is so annoying and I couldn't find a way of disabling it.
This is the reason I started looking at Xiaomi phones. Definitely much better display than my previous Huawei Mate 20 pro. It's a decent phone running MIUI 13. I got a matte screen protector and use brightness around 70-100% all the time, it's not overly bright, so not pinching my eyes like some other phones at that level. It's quite comfortable, but because it has PWM below 50% brightness levels I wouldn't recommend it. Fingerprint reader on the side is a bit awkward I accidentally unlock my phone when putting into the pocket.
Edit:
This phone was initially ok, but after 2-3 weeks I started getting eye strain, which is very annoying.
